ME!

Well to start off my first blog I thought I would tell you guys a little about me. My name is Daniel and I just turned twenty two years old on January 13. I am from Snow Hill Maryland, which is a tiny farm town on the eastern shore. I am a senior here at UNCW and have loved it so much I do not want to ever leave.

You may ask how I ended up down here from MD. Well it is because I play on the baseball team here. I was recruited to come play here and I just could not say no after visiting. I am a pitcher and I love it, the thrill of getting to play at the college level is a great experience. It does keep me very busy but I would not have it any other way. I would encourage anybody that wants to come out and watch us play, we as players love to see the stands filled up.

Moving on I want to tell you a little about my family. There are my parents Jeff and Megan, then my sister Sarah who just recently moved down here to Wilmington to attend Cape Fear Community College. She wants to Transfer into UNCW next semester. We have a jack russell terrier named Toby and a fish pond in my backyard full of fish. Overall I think my family is great and I love them very much, but I might be biased. HA

As far as my goals in life I have always wanted to take my baseball career as far as I could. I even was fortunate to have been drafted last year by the Washington Nationals. It was a great honor but I wanted to come back and finish my degree. I think of myself as a down to earth person and I realize that by having a degree I can do anything I want. My ultimate goal however would be to play baseball as long as possible then host a sports talk show about local high school and college sports.

In the end that is a little bit about me. I hope to talk to you all soon.

  1. The Nationals definitely could have used your help. Unfortunately I am from DC and have to deal with some pretty sub-par baseball every year. Just the woes of an expansion team, I guess. They seem to be moving in the right direction.

I really enjoyed watching you guys play last year while covering the games for The Seahawk. You guys were a young team last year, and look to be even better this year. Keep up the hard work.

  2. Daniel :)

I am excited to see where life takes you. Having been your friend (and now more) I know how important everything you wrote about is to you. Before I knew you as a baseball player, I knew that you were special for something. The team will be great this year and so will you. I know the excitement we all felt last June when you got drafted. I remember you secretly jumping in your room. It is nice to see someone who deserves so much finally get the chance they have earned. Good luck with everything and I will be right there beside you the whole way!

  3. Congratulations on being picked up and on making the decision to finish school. It's hard to pass up a chance like that and for you to be able to be strong enough and confident enough to finish school is awesome. I hope that everything works out for you and that you continue to follow your passion. Good luck this season!

  4. Congratulations on being chosen for the Wilmington Nationals! That's pretty impressive.

On another note, I'm from Baltimore! I love meeting other people from Maryland. Everyone always wonders why so many Maryland kids come down to UNCW, and they obviously have never been to MD in the winter! Ha!

Good luck with baseball this semester!

  5. Daniel, I love that you started your blog about yourself. Sometimes we just need a place to vent. As a former ball player myself, I understand your love for the game but also feel that education is important. Your family sounds great, and I am sure it is nice for both you and your sister to have each other down here since your are so far from home.

    Good Luck this season...Go Seahawks!

  6. Daniel,

The thing I like most about your blog is how personal and real your writing is. Instead of making the post entirely about you and your accomplishments, you told us about your family and your desire to finish your degree from UNCW. Having said that, I also look forward to reading about the baseball season and how you and the rest of the team play throughout the year. I know you guys have high expectations this year, but I'm sure those expectations will be met. Good luck and I look forward to reading more posts from you.

  8. So glad you're writing this - I'll definitely have to take my boys to some games this spring - they'll love it, and I probably wouldn't have thought of it otherwise :)
