The New Season

So last time in my post I told you guys a little bit about myself and my life. I pointed out that I play baseball and was fortunate enough to get drafted last year but decided to come back. I am so glad I did to because I love this time of year. It's a time that the Diamond Hawks are taking flight and getting ready for a long season.

Just to give everyone a little background about your team. We are coming off a 31-23 season last year and lost only one senior. So basically we return everyone from last years club. We have been picked to finish second in the conference behind James Madison University. This is kind of a slap in the face because they did not even make it to the conference tournament last year and we made it to the finals before losing to Georgia State. Not to mention that we also started the year 19-3 a school record.

So far this year we have been just scrimmaging each other and are itching to start playing against someone else. We open up the season in two weeks on the 19th in Jacksonville FL. against Jacksonville University. Then we come back for seven straight weekends of home games. Starting that off with the Hughs Bros. Challenge against Liberty, Lehigh and Morehead State. Overall we have a good chance to do really well early and carry it into the whole season.

As for me personally I have started in a few scrimmages and done well. Some rain has pushed back our normal routine but that happens sometimes. I am really ready to kick off this season and get to playing with my teammates. This group of guys has a lot of potential and have become very close with each other. We are ready to play.

Lastly I want to encourage you all to come out and watch. I know it can be cold a lot of nights early on but we as players really do love to see the stands filled and cheering for us. It means a lot to us and I think it is fun for you guys to.

  1. I don't think you should let what they said discourage you or any of your team members. Sounds like you boys are ready to hit the field running and the enthusiasm you show along with skills is what wins ball games. If your boys are as excited as you are I have no doubt that yall can take the conference title.
I am also excited for yalls season to start, because I love going to the games...even when it is cold. Baseball season is a very special time of year and even though I dont play anymore I still love the game and look forward being at the ballpark every year. I'll see ya on the diamond buddy, I will be there with my gloves and my snuggie on!

  2. Man I know what you’re feeling right now, at least somewhat. I was not the greatest ball player in the world in high school, but I loved getting out there and playing. The time of year just before the season was always the hardest because you’re sick of scrimmaging your own team and ready to play someone else. Sounds like we’re going to have a good season this year though and I’ll definitely try to make it out this year and watch some games. Good luck!

  3. Your blog got me excited about baseball season. I know that the Seahawks will go very far in the season, so don't worry about what the CAA ranks you pre-season. Its all going to matter by the end but no need to worry about the before. Since my boyfriend is a baseball player on the team I will be out there watching him pitch every weekend. I prefer our baseball to our basketball anyway. GO Seahawks and GO #22!!

  4. Ah yeh nothing like baseball season, look forward to it every year. Growing up here I have always liked the time of the year to go to Hawks baseball games. I am sure that Scalf has yall ready for the upcomming season. Always fun to make it out to the games and enjoy a good game. Hopefully yall will do well this year and looking to see something good from our pitchers this year, ha.

  5. Can't wait for dub baseball to start up. Finally we will have something good to root for after an abysmal basketball season haha. I know you are probably pissed about being picked second in the conference, but sometimes that can be a great motivating factor for a team looking to avenge a Conference Championship loss. I know I wouldn't bet against a team that returns all eight position players and six starting pitchers. Nice post and i look forward to reading an insider's perspective as the season gets under way.

  6. I'm anxious to go to a baseball game here - we were diehard tribe fans at home, and i really miss those games!

i remember when i was a little girl the stands were empty at the old municipal stadium, but by high school everything was a sellout at Jacob's field - so sad that now I barely follow them anymore - too hard to find games - and not much to watch even if you do :(
