So last I left off we had just beat Elon and were preparing for Rhode Island to head to Wilmington. Let me just say that the good run we had came to an end versus them. We dropped two of three games against them and play very bad. We made eleven errors in three games. It was so unbelievable to watch us play so bad.
After a rough weekend we had a full week off with no mid week games. This is rare in college baseball but it just worked out that way for that week. So that whole week we practiced and worked on defense getting ready to open up conference play against Towson. We started off right were we left off last weekend dropping the Friday game 7-2 and looking ugly doing it. We had a long talk about how we need to pick it up as a team and that is just what we did. We beat them on Saturday and Sunday very convincingly.
Then just last night we played at our rival ECU in Greenville. Talk about an adventure. We started the game scoring two quick runs. I was the starting pitcher and came out throwing well getting two strikeouts in the first. We then proceeded to go up 8 to 1 over the next two innings. Then I got injured and hurt my back, do not worry it is not serious, but I had to come out of the game. Then it got ridiculous, the umpires were terrible and it lead to a war of them throwing at our guys then us throwing at them. Then the dugouts cleared a brawl was on the verge of starting. I do not think I have heard more yelling anywhere in my life. The staduim of about 3000 sounded like thirty thousand it was incredible. After all this happened and the dust settle they had chipped away and were now winning 10-8. Although we were not going down without a fight. We scored two more to tie it up then they scored two more. Finally we busted it open and scored 5 runs in the eighth inning and went ahead 15-12. Winning eventually by a final of 15-13. It was an awesome game that I must say has affected my current voice from all the yelling we did.
This weekend we are back to conference play against George Mason. If anyone is still in town please come out and watch I promise it will be good.

ReplyDeleteWay to go for beating the Pirates! I hate ECU with a passion! It sounds like you guys have finally gotten in a good winning groove. Hopefully things will continue to get even better. I especially enjoy big rivalry games where everyone is on edge and ready to yell. They are fun to watch and (from my experience playing soccer) fun to be a part of. Good luck with the rest of the season!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the win! I am from Greenville way, but am proud to call myself a Seahawk. Purple is just not my color. That sounds like a great game. I was reading so fast through your post because I couldn't wait to find out if yall won.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read about your back but I am glad it was not serious. Hope you won't be out for too long with it. Although good sportsmanship is important, I wish I could have seen the yelling match. Anyone can get into ECU so the ignorance must also follow the students onto the field.
Again congrats on the win and hope yall continue to excell in the conference.
I am so happy yall beat ECU. The fans were some of the rudest I have ever seen. I could not have been more proud as a traveling fan to see you guys struggle through a tough game to take the win. The tension during the game was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. I am sorry to have seen you hurt your back. It was a scary moment for sure. I know now that you are 100x better. I can't wait to see the rest of the season. You definitely have had your ups and downs but I know you will come out great in the end.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you guys are doing so well this season. If I were in Wilmington, I would definitely try to make a few of the games! That ECU game sounds like something out of a film or television script--a lot of drama. I'm glad you guys were able to pull out a win. I hope your back is back to normal now. How did you hurt it?
ReplyDeleteOuch, 11 errors in 3 games. When I covered you guys last year interior defense was definintely one of your strengths.
ReplyDeleteHope the back heals up quick, we need you out there. This team is the pride of the school, even more so after the basketball catastrophe this season.
